The Bevy Shad has revolutionized light lure fishing and stands out for its simple yet extremely effective retrieve. Casting, reeling in, occasionally twitching, and pausing is all it takes to reliably elicit bites, even under difficult conditions.

The Bevy Shad really comes into its own when other lures stop working. Many have tried to imitate it, but the original has a special feature that makes all the difference. The Suspender model hovers in the water with its head slightly lowered when paused, mimicking a small fish in a natural posture. This behavior directly triggers the hunting instinct of predatory fish and often results in aggressive strikes. The Bevy Shad is designed to hover perfectly in water temperatures between 6 and 10 degrees. In warmer water, it rises slowly. To maintain its ability to hover even then, the rig can be adjusted—for example, by using a larger snap on the belly hook or by using higher-density fluorocarbon. Under optimal conditions in the spring, however, fluorocarbon can cause the lure to sink slightly, so the setup should always be adjusted to the specific situation.
